Leadership Behaviour of Agricultural Extension Supervisors in Shabwah and Hadramaut Governorates
Abstract
This study aimed to test the validity and reliability of the Flett & Yuki
Leadership Behavior Scale in the Yemeni context, determine the level of
leadership behavior among agricultural extension supervisors in the Shabwa
and Hadramawt governorates, and examine its relationship with seven
independent
variables:
innovation,
self-esteem,
self-control,
democratic/autocratic behavior, flexibility, years of service, and length of
service in agricultural extension.
The study population consisted of 62 extension supervisors, selected
through a comprehensive census. Data was collected via personal interviews.
The results showed that the scale possessed acceptable validity and reliability,
and that 56.5% of the supervisors exhibited a high level of leadership
behavior. The results also revealed a statistically significant negative
correlation (p < 0.01) between leadership behavior and innovation (p <
0.475), self-esteem (p < 0.386), and self-control (p < 0.478), and a statistically
significant positive correlation (p < 0.01) with democratic behavior (p <
0.448) and flexibility (p < 0.458). The study recommended training
supervisors in democratic and flexible leadership skills and providing a
proposed training program in this regard.
